“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
– Nelson Mandela
The late elementary school and early middle school years are critical to a child. Reading and math scores in fourth grade are proven predictors of a child’s academic future and therefore economic and social outlook. By the time inner-city students reach fourth grade, many are two to three grades behind their higher-income peers. Once this disparity presents itself, targeted academic intervention is required to help these children improve to grade level and graduate from high school.
The Paraclete provides a rich, successful educational enrichment program in the South Boston community that erases this educational disparity, providing otherwise at-risk children targeted and highly effective academic experiences. Nearly 1,000 South Boston children are living proof that the program works!
